Prairie Fire

A volunteer stands guard as a neighbor's land undergoes a controlled burning northwest of Independence, Kansas. Prairie fires were frequently used by area farmers to clear weeds and prep the land for later planting, but the fires could easily get out of hand on windy days.

Photographed with a Nikon FM2n and Nikkor 24mm lens.
